Maver Festival Festival 2009
Fishing Information call 01726 862519
It is once again time for the autumn festivals and it once again starts with the annual pilgrimage to White Acres for the Maver festival. It is a sell out event with 180 anglers fishing the 5 days on Pollawyn, Jennys/Python, Trewaters, Porth and Bolingey.
This is always a very popular festival with some anglers using it as a practise week for the following festival, some as a final chance of qualifying for next week and the rest just because they enjoy the week. We have been stacked out with anglers at White Acres in the three weeks leading up to the festival which is why we have chosen to use the above lakes as they are the most rested. The festival anglers were keen to come down to start practising but this was only possible for a few seeing the park was fully booked and we only had a handful of caravans available. The mass decent happened over the weekend with a steady trickle of anglers arriving throughout both days, some were eager to get straight out on the lakes whist others used the time to relax and catch up with old friend in the pub!
In the weeks leading up to the festival (although hard to believe) there have been only a couple days of rain and it has been mostly bright & sunny although there is a definite autumnal chill in the air. The fishing conditions have not been ideal as there has not been so much of a ripple on the lakes and the glare from the sun has meant the fish have backed right off but there have still been plenty of nice hauls. Fingers crossed the conditions will change favourably and the catch rates increase throughout the week.
At the beginning of the year we change our rules on our festival and allowed the method to be used, this proved to be popular and produced some great nets of fish, this autumn we have changed our bait allowance slightly and although we still only allow 8 pints per angler now they can take a full 8 pints of pellet with them if they wish. Although if they decide to take 8 pints of pellet they will not be allowed any other bait with them and if they do we have taken a firmer stance this year and rather that just not their result for the day counting, they will be out of the festival completely.
So it is full steam ahead and we are all ready for the Maver Festival 2009 read on for the match action from the first day of the festival.
Day One
The normal 9.30am draw is brought forward to 9am on the first day so we can get all the anglers gathered together to go over the rules and format for the festival. There are a few new faces this year as well as the regular crowd so it is always good to double check that everyone knows the process for the week. With the sections drawn prior to the start of the festival everyone knows where they will be heading for day one and in which rotation they will be fishing. With the familiarities over and done with the draw gets going and the festival has officially started, as the first hands go into the bags there are 180 anglers all hoping to draw a flyer, read on to find out how the lakes have fished and who has got off to a great start.

It is always a boost to start the festival on a section win but for those that have faired not as well they will be hoping for a better draw on day two, The weigh sheets are up on the board in morning so the anglers can see what pegs they need to hope to draw for day two.
Day Two
After a good start to the festival it was all go for day two, with the draw being over in record time and the anglers off to their pegs. With the weigh sheets from day one thoroughly scrutinised and information shared amongst each other it was time to crack on with day two. Once again it was a mild overcast day with a slight hint of rain in the air and a light breeze.

Andy Lloyd was second on peg 15 with 73lb 12oz, Andy caught at 2 foot deep on the pellet waggler. Third with 62lb 15oz was Richie Hull, Richie caught on the method and bomb with pellet from peg 16. The midway point is always a big marker for the anglers and can determine whether they knuckle down for the rest of the week or have an extra hour or two in the pub!
Come back tomorrow for all the latest results.
Day Three
So we have reached the midway point of the festival and it is turning out to be a close fought race. The weights have been steady across the lakes so far and today fished reasonably well again. Has anyone managed to hang on to the perfect 3 section win result, read on for the action from day three.
It was another clear and chilly day for the anglers and with the previous results once again studied the anglers were eager to draw and get on with the day. There were a lot of smiles with some racing to their pegs but a few looking a bit forlorn knowing they would have to work hard for a result today. Wednesdays are always a bit of a bonus day for the anglers as the lake winners receive a free holiday and an invitation back to fish the 2010 winners week mini festival.

There is only one day left of the festival and today has seen some twists and turns in the proceedings, follow the results below to see who has raised their game and who has fallen behind.
Day Four
It was a very chilly start to the day with a definite drop in temperature. The cold weather always makes the fish back off a bit so lets hope this does not have too much of an affect on today’s match.

C Section Pollawyn
It was another tough day on Pollawyn as the carp have made a definite move into their preferred area on the lake for winter, the prolific summer hunting ground of the high bank is now not a feature in the overall weights as they have moved into the low teen area of the first arm. It was still a close fought match for section points and we saw the best over all weights of the week so far. Phil Ringer was today’s lake winner with 111lb 5oz; Phil was on peg 22 and caught on the method with pellet. Second on peg 13 was Adam Wakelin, Adam had a weight of 100lb 3oz caught on the pole with meat. With one day left of the festival Mikey Williams is one point ahead of his rivals, there is everything to play for in the final day as the dropped result will then take affect. We have seen the top 20 change throughout the week this is just as likely to change again in the final day. Those anglers that already have a poor result will have to keep their fingers crossed for high section points and a good draw on the final day.
Who will be the White Acres Maver champion 2009? Join us tomorrow for the final results.
Day Five
It has been a cracking festival and it is extremely close as we go into the final day. There will be many anglers going all out to get a vital section win for the final day that can see them rise out the rankings whilst others are just hoping to be able to pick up some beer tokens on the final day!
The weather has been getting progressively colder this week which hasn’t had the best affect on the lakes but for those anglers that have got their heads around it and have geared themselves up for winter fishing seem to be having the best results.
